Campaign themes

2017

DeRose's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

School Funding Reform

  • The 27th Legislative District is home to many of the best public schools in the state. However, funding our schools falls directly on the backs of home owners throughout our communities. I support comprehensive school funding reform so that the school districts in our community receive a larger share of state education aid. This additional money should be used to both strengthen our schools and provide property tax relief for families.

Repeal Gas Tax

  • The recently enacted gas tax will reach into the pockets of New Jersey drivers with every trip to the gas station. Rather than addressing the excessive costs of infrastructure projects in New Jersey, the state legislature once again took the easy way out by kicking the can down the road and raising taxes on already overtaxed residents. Without real reform, New Jersey residents will face another gas tax increase when the transportation trust fund runs out of money again in eight short years.

Environment

  • Protecting and preserving our state's environment is extremely important. Whether it is our oceans and beaches or our state parks, we must ensure that our environment throughout the state is clean and safe for current and future generations. One of the most important steps that we can take to protect our environment is to strongly oppose the construction of the Pilgrim Oil Pipeline. In addition, I support the state’s e-waste recycling program in order to safely dispose of old electronic equipment and keep toxic materials out of our environment.

Bringing Change to Trenton

  • Every election year, the same Trenton politicians tell us how they will solve the same problems. But year after year the systemic problems that face our state remain. We will never change Trenton and ultimately solve the problems our state faces unless we change the people we send to the state capital.[2]

General election

Elections for the New Jersey General Assembly took place in 2017. All 80 seats were up for election. State assembly members are elected to two-year terms. The general election took place on November 7, 2017. A primary election took place on June 6, 2017. The filing deadline for the primary election was April 3, 2017.[4] Legislative districts in the New Jersey General Assembly are multi-member districts, with two representatives in each district. In Democratic and Republican primary elections, the top two candidates move forward to the general election, and the top two candidates in the general election are declared the winners.[5] Incumbent John McKeon (D) and incumbent Mila Jasey (D) defeated Ronald DeRose (R) and Angelo Tedesco (R) in the New Jersey General Assembly District 27 general election.[6][7]
