Campaign themes

2014

Gillis' website highlighted the following campaign themes:[1]

A summary of my stances on some of the most important issues are:
  • Not only am I for our Constitutionally Guaranteed 2nd Amendment Right to Bear Arms, but I am for defending ALL our Constitutionally Guaranteed Rights!
  • Adamantly against Common Core. For many years now, teachers have been teaching to tests rather than teaching. However, if they do not do that, they will be out of a job. Common Core will only make this worse and even more so, there is an aspect of Common Core which is a serious invasion of privacy by data collecting methods. Included questions include: Does the family own guns, religious questions, and other questions that have nothing to do with education.
  • Election reform including term limits of a maximum of two terms or eight years, whichever is greater, in all elected positions, and at a minimum, open primaries. Currently, there is a ballot initiative for a "top-two" open primary election system. While this may not an ideal system, and certainly other options should be explored, this would at least be a good step in the right direction.[2]
