Sohigian admonished for treatment of lawyers in court
The California Commission on Judicial Performance issued a public admonishment of Sohigian for his treatment of lawyers who appeared before him in court. The commission stated that Sohigian treated several attorneys in a "sarcastic, belittling, and harsh manner." The incidents occurred in two separate cases and took place between 2011 and 2013. The commission found Sohigian's behavior to be "at a minimum, improper action."[2]
Sohigian was disciplined by the commission on two prior occasions. In 2007, he was admonished privately for treating an attorney who appeared before him in court rudely. An advisory letter was also issued to Sohigian in 1991, after the commission found he abused his authority when sanctioning an attorney.[2]
Although Sohigian retired on April 16, 2014, the commission had issued a notice of intent to publicly admonish him prior to his retirement date.[2]
