Campaign website
Kennedy's campaign website stated the following:
“ |
Government Accountability Congress and government have forgotten their purpose and both Californians and Americans nationwide are paying the price for it. In the words of Napoleon the Pig from the book “Animal Farm” written by George Orwell – “All animals are created equal but some are more equal than others.” Elected officialsare no longer public servants but rather are served by the public. Violating the very trust placed upon them by constantly not abiding by the very rules and laws that they have enacted. As your next Congresswoman, I will restore the trust and faith thatis missing in Congress. I will lead by example showing the district and the country that our morals and values cannot be compromised or ignored. It is time to return to common-sense solutions and the “can do” spirit that this country was founded upon. This will be the spirit of today’s Congress with me as your Congresswoman.
The COVID-19 Pandemic has shown us the severe flaws of our healthcare system. Most people get health insurance through their jobs. However, as we have seen recently, when jobs are eliminated or an entire industry disappears the only option is government subsidized health insurance. Healthcare reform to me means policies that support making healthcare premiums and deductibles affordable for small businesses and the self-employed. The current law benefits large corporations and insurance companies. It is time for the everyone else to be included.
While good government policies can encourage job creation and economic growth, bad policies can eliminate jobs. At the current time people are being paid more NOT to go to work and our small businesses are being starved of both labor and capital. That is unsustainable and leads to an economy for the ultra-wealthy and those dependent upon government services. Policies and funding should support small businesses and job creation -period. The best stimulus is a job and the best jobs that support a community come from small businesses. As a small business owner, I feel the pain and I am ready to legislate some relief for those who create jobs.
I support the police and all law enforcement. They maintain our civil society and keep us safe. Who else are you going to call when somebody is breaking into your home at 2:00 am? Police department budgets whose officers follow their oaths should be fully funded. Most importantly, in support of our police, is recognizing that they are a part of the criminal justice system. The courts, prosecutors and elected District Attorneys have as much if not more of an impact on crime and public safety and all are a part of the criminal justice system.
I come from a family with a long history of military service, including a dad who served in Vietnam, so taking care of the men and women who have served us has long been important to me. I’m proud to have been involved in veteran support groups and will always make veterans and defense of this nation my top priority. That means giving our military the tools and weapons it needs to fight, win and come home quickly.
Our immigration system is extremely flawed and needs to be fixed immediately. It currently rewards illegally crossing the border and penalizes those coming to this country legally. That’s not only unlawful but it is unfair to those who went through legal process. It is causing overcrowding schools and increased crime for the very legal immigrants it is supposed to protect. Any law that benefits someone “cutting in line” is a bad law. Immediate immigration reform that supports the legal immigration process would be a top priority of mine.
The Second amendment and right to bear arms is one of the bedrocks of this nation. Families need the ability to protect themselves if the government cannot or will not.[2] |
