I was brought up with the principle that I should fight for what I believe in, and that I should never give in and never give up. I have volunteered in many capacities throughout my entire adult life. Giving back to people and communities is one way to effect change and be part of public service. Now I am running for State House with that same belief. I was raised by hard working parents, one of whom fled a Fascist country to be become a great American and an inspiration to his children. Living in various states has given me the perspective to view diverse cultures and communities with a broader point of view. My background is varied, from working as an adult education teacher and working in the corporate and legal worlds, to becoming a novelist, a television host, and an entrepreneur. Throughout my careers I always felt a higher calling to public service, and now I am answering that call.
  • I am a determined and proactive person, who has worked hard throughout her entire life.
  • I want people to know that the partisanship that has permeated our political system in the past several years cannot, and should no longer, be tolerated. I will serve the people of South Carolina as a Representative, who believes in reaching across the aisle to make sure that the trust the citizens of this state have placed in me will not be in vain.
  • We cannot be effective unless we first know the concerns of the people we represent. I will always be available to listen to their concerns, and to bring those issues back to the State House.
Reforming our education system must be our first priority. We have to pay our teachers a proper living wage and give them the resources to enable them to continue their commitment to make our children the best educated in the country. Without a decent salary we cannot expect to keep our existing teachers or to attract new ones.

It is essential that we treat our Veterans with the deference they deserve for serving our country. We cannot allow them to be homeless or to not have access to the healthcare they urgently need.

It is necessary that our seniors be provided with the resources to ensure that they have affordable healthcare and prescription coverage. We must stop having them make decisions between paying for their necessities or their prescription drugs.
I would like to be remembered as a person who acted on her beliefs.
