Ronnie Broughton was a 2011 Republican candidate for District 10 of the Louisiana House of Representatives.

Broughton ran unsuccessfully for the District 10 seat in the Louisiana House of Representatives in 2007. He has served as President of the Webster Parish School Board, member of the Republican State Central Committee, and Webster Parish Chairman for the George W. Bush campaigns.[1]

Broughton ran in the 2011 election for Louisiana House of Representatives District 10. He faced Jerri Ray de Pingre (R), Gerald Holland (R) and Gene Reynolds (D) in the primary election on October 22, 2011. Because Louisiana uses a blanket primary system, a candidate can be declared the overall winner of the seat by garnering 50 percent +1 of the vote in the primary. de Pingre and Reynolds won the primary.[2]

Campaign themes

2011

On his Facebook campaign page, Broughton outlines three main issues:[3]

  • Economic strength: "Individual enterprise and small- and medium-size businesses are the core engine of our economic recovery and growth. Ronnie supports straightforward policies that promote these ideals. We can strengthen our economy by fighting for sensible taxes on wages and business earnings, rewarding businesses that create private-sector jobs, and eliminating regulations that hamper growth and impose unnecessary cost."
  • Education: "It is not enough to grow the economy today. We must provide a high-quality education for all Louisianans in order to succeed in the future. Ronnie knows Louisiana’s students of today are its businessmen and women, its leaders and its families of tomorrow."
  • Better: "[Ronnie] believes in better opportunities for the citizens of our district, our state and our country. We deserve better. Smaller government is better—Local control is better—Parental choice for schools is better—Safer drug free communities are better—Growing job opportunities are better—A reason to come to our area is better—A reason to stay is better—This election is an investment in the future for our children and our own peace of mind."
