Rosa Atkins
Rosa Atkins was the acting Virginia Superintendent of Public Instruction. She assumed office on January 3, 2022. Atkins was appointed by Gov. Ralph Northam (D) to replace former Superintendent James Lane.
Biography
Rosa Atkins earned bachelor's and master's degrees in special education, a master's degree in administration and supervision from Virginia State University, and a doctorate in educational leadership and policy studies from Virginia Tech. Atkins' career experience includes working as the superintendent of Charlottesville Public Schools and assistant superintendent for talent acquisition and development with the Virginia Department of Education. She served as the president of the Urban Superintendents Association of America and the Virginia Association of School Superintendents.[1]
