Rosanna Malouf Peterson is a federal judge on senior status with the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Washington. She was nominated by President President Obama (D) on October 13, 2009. She was confirmed by the Senate on January 25, 2010, and received commission on January 26, 2010. From 2011 to 2016, Peterson served as the chief judge of the district court. She assumed senior status on October 1, 2021.[1]
Peterson was the first woman to serve on the Eastern District of Washington.
Biography
Early life and education
Peterson received her undergraduate degree from the University of North Dakota in 1977, an M.A. from the University of North Dakota in 1983, and her J.D. from the University of North Dakota Law School in 1991.[2]

Peterson was nominated by President President Obama to fill a vacant seat on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Washington in October 2009.[3] She was nominated for the seat vacated when Frederick Van Sickle assumed senior status and was confirmed by unanimous consent of the Senate on January 25, 2010.[4][1]
The American Bar Association gave Peterson a unanimous rating of Qualified.[5]
Judiciary Committee hearing
Peterson had a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee on November 18, 2009, which voted to forward her nomination to the full Senate.[6] She was confirmed by the Senate on January 25, 2010.[1]
