An effort to recall Rose Cannaday from her elected position on the city council of Irving, Texas was launched in May 2012.[1] The recall effort was abandoned in June 2012 after recall organizers failed to gather enough signatures to force a recall election.[2]
Reasons for recall
Kensley Stewart was an organizer of the recall campaign. Cannaday was criticized for supporting the $252 million Las Colinas entertainment center. Cannaday has received political donations from individuals with business ties to the entertainment center. She supported a $213 million bond package against the advice of the city staff and financial advisers. Cannaday was also accused of treating city residents disrespectfully. Cannaday says the allegations against her lack evidence, and that "I’m saying if you’ve got proof, bring it on...But they don’t. They’re just sound bites.”[1]
Cannaday's response
Cannaday said the recall effort was designed to drum up political tensions during city council election season.[3] She said she would consider legal action to stop the recall effort.[4]
Path to the ballot
Recall organizers needed to submit 8,100 signatures by June 2, 2012.[1] Recall organizers failed to gather sufficient signatures, and the recall effort came to an end on June 2.[2]
