Roshunda Harris-Allen is a native of Detroit, Michigan and has lived in Hinds County for over 25 years. She was elected in 2021 to serve as Alderwoman-at-Large in Byram, Mississippi. Roshunda Harris-Allen earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, a Master of Science in Early Childhood Education, and a Specialist Certification in Infant and Toddler Development. In May 2015, she earned her Doctorate of Education in Early Childhood Education with an emphasis in Education Leadership from Thee I Love, Jackson State University.


As an Associate Professor of Education, Director for the Institute for the Study of Modern-Day Slavery, Student Advisor for the Harriet Tubman Project at Tougaloo College in Tougaloo, Mississippi, and author of the book Social Justice: Disrupting the Pipeline, she advocates for equal education and a quality life for all. Her latest accomplishment is the development of a Call to Action Fellowship for students and faculty members from institutions of higher learning to come together and gain knowledge and a deeper understanding of the skills needed to educate and support young children's development and learning process focusing on child, family, school, and community.

  • My purpose as a public official is to educate, advocate, and provide resources to the community I serve.
  • My goal is for us to work together to expand the quality of our community through education, preparation, advocacy, collaboration, and enhancement to inspire individuals, families, and businesses to build a better District.
  • It is a priority for me to listen to all of the citizens that represent District 66.
Areas of public policy that I am personally passionate about are education, healthcare and access to medical facilities, economic growth and development, food security, equity.
