Roy Owens ran for election to the Boston City Council to represent District 7 in Massachusetts. He lost in the primary on September 9, 2025.
Biography
Owens earned an associate degree in education from Roxbury Community College, going on to receive a B.S. in education from the University of Massachusetts Boston. He also earned a certificate from Gordon Seminary. Professionally, Owens has worked as a teacher in the Boston Public Schools and as a social worker for the Department of Public Welfare. Owens and his wife have four children.[1]

The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was June 3, 2014. Incumbent Sonia Rosa Chang-Diaz defeated Roy Owens in the Democratic primary. David Wyatt was unopposed in the Republican primary. Chang-Diaz defeated Wyatt in the general election.[10]

Special election - House
Evandro C. Carvalho defeated Karen A. Charles-Peterson, Jennifer Anne Johnson, Barry Lawton and Roy Owens in the Democratic primary and was unopposed in the special election, which took place on April 29.[11]
The seat was vacant following Carlos Henriquez's (D) expulsion from the chamber on February 6.
A special election for the position of Massachusetts House of Representatives Fifth Suffolk District was called for April 29, with a primary on April 1. The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was February 24.[12][13]

Owens ran in the 2012 election for Massachusetts State Senate Second Suffolk District. He was defeated by incumbent Sonia Rosa Chang-Diaz in the Democratic primary on September 6.[14][15][16]
