Roy Wijewickrama is a district court judge for the 30th Judicial District, which presides over Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Jackson, Macon and Swain counties of North Carolina. He was first elected to the court in 2010. Wijewickrama was re-elected to the 30th Judicial District in 2014, winning a term that expired on December 31, 2018.[1][2]

Wijewickrama was elected to the 30th Judicial District. He defeated Stephen G. Ellis in the general election, winning 53.88% of the vote.[3] Though judges in the state do not run with party affiliation, he was endorsed by the North Carolina Democratic Party.

Education
Wijewickrama received his undergraduate degree from the North Carolina State University in Raleigh and his law degree from Cleveland State University in Ohio.[4]
Career
After graduating from law school, Wijewickrama worked as an assistant district attorney for the 30th Judicial District in North Carolina. Next, he practiced law with the firm Kersten, Davis & Wijewickrama for about a year. In 2008, he was appointed by as the tribal prosecutor for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians by Chief Mitchell Hicks.[4]
