In response to a question from the New York City Campaign Finance Board about the most important issue he would address if elected, Antoine said:
“ |
ATTACKING HIGH UNEMPLOYMENT. Unemployment, especially among our youth in the 41st City Council District is one of the highest in New York City. It has been pegged at 33%. What this means is that with an average population of 167,000 people living in the district approximately 21,710 residents are unemployed. We can and must do better. I will work closer with the private sector to create more development and investment in the community; foster a better climate to do business that can translate into employment opportunities. CREATING EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES. One of the things that must be done at the Federal level is to expand HEAD START and EARLY HEAD START. These efforts improve educational performances, not only in lower grades but throughout high school and beyond. I believe that education must not be limited to a school building and a set of hours and days education. I believe that education, especially public education must be a multifaceted, ongoing quality of life and intellectual development support system. ZERO TOLERANCE TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. Whether it’s spousal, child or senior abuse, I will have zero tolerance to these forms of domestic violence I favor strong law enforcement and stiff panalities of such actions. We must learn to respect each other and not settle our differences by physical blows.[13] |

Another issue he listed as important was:
“ |
DEALING WITH THE HEALTH CRISIS. The Brooklyn 41st City Council District ranks at the bottom of the pile when it come to health disparities, outcomes and how much health related resources that we receive. I will harness the collective resources that we presently have, strengthen and develop a new program that brings quality and affordable health care to all residents in the 41st District.[13] |
