I am an Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nurse. I have a MS and PhD from the University of CO Health Sciences Center. I dedicated my career to treating people with mental health disorders and my clients have included a wide variety of people including police officers, firefighters, people exiting prisons, people with substance use disorders. I spent many years in public hospital settings and now I practice at a community mental health center. These public entities are critical for ensuring public safety and providing services to all people who need them, without regard for ability to pay for such services.
My values include honesty, a strong work ethic, a desire for all people to live well. I am fiscally responsible, open minded, and an advocate for those who may not have a voice.- I will champion a woman's right to make personal health decisions regarding her own body. While we have rights in CO, it is important that all women in the USA have this basic human right.
- We must protect schoolchildren and others from the threat to their safety and security created by high capacity assault weapons in the wrong hands. We are fortunate to have laws in CO that limit number of rounds to 15, but we have not done enough about illegal guns.
- Clean, renewable energy is a wise strategy to power our state and nation. We can formulate a plan that will create new jobs, re tool those who work in fossil fuels, and offer incentives to make the transition more appealing to all.
I am passionate about mental health and integrating mental health with primary care so that it is accessible and in one location so that our healthcare can be coordinated.
Education is the key to a peaceful and prosperous society. Not everyone has to go to college but we want all teens to have a plan for their career so that they live with a sense of hope.
When I was 17, I was selected to live in Rocky Mountain National Park for a summer. We lived in log cabins, 5 teens to a cabin. We chopped wood so we could have warm water for showers. We worked long days hiking in the park, bringing trash out of the back country, doing trail restoration, and noxious weed control. We buried an emergency phone cable up Long's Peak, and installed an outhouse. We brought ill and dead people off the mountain (people have heart attacks on the trails). We were paid 92 cents an hour but the experience was worth a million.
I loved this series because the author imagined what life might have been like for the first humans on Earth. She based her work on research of first civilizations. Culture fascinates me.
