Campaign themes

2016

Kohler issued the following statement regarding his bid for office:

I am a progressive Democrat that accepts most - but not all - of the Bernie Sanders platform. In Utah, I intend to focus on Medicaid expansion to the ACA guidelines, increased educational funding to bring the state back to at least the national median expenditure per student over a 5 year period, clean air for all counties in the state and good jobs for all at a living wage without giving into corporate welfare.

My platform also includes numerous positions including but not limited to: campaign finance reform, eliminating gerrymandering, moving from a caucus to primary system, phasing out the drilling and mining of fossil fuels and replacing energy needs with renewables, medical cannabis, restoring progressive taxation in Utah, supporting new national monuments, stopping the attempt to take over federal lands, unqualified LGBT rights, supporting increased public transportation, promoting universal background checks for all firearm sales, and the adoption of "right to die" legislation.
