Rudy has deep Bay County roots and knows the value of hard work. His step-mother was an assistant county prosecutor, his grandfather an ordained minister, and his grandmother a public school teacher—all right here in Bay County. After a career in the automotive industry, he followed in their footsteps and moved back to Bay County to pursue becoming an educator here. He has earned masters degrees in public administration and education and has taught at schools in Bay, Saginaw, and Genesee counties. Rudy lives in Bay County with his wife, Tristica, and their dog, Esther. They have two children, Kara and Rudy Michael III, who are both in college. Rudy comes from three generations of union labor. Before he was even born, unions were making a difference in his life. Rudy credits the UAW for pulling his family out of poverty, and still today, several members of his family have a good quality of life thanks to UAW retirement benefits. After graduating from college, Rudy spent more than a decade in management for Ford and other automotive manufacturers. He has seen personally how unions contribute to safe workplaces, quality products, and fair pay and benefits. Labor unions built this nation and the middle class, and Rudy is running for HD 96 because he believes strong unions lead to strong economies.
  • Economic Opportunity: In many parts of Michigan, including Bay County, the cost of living is too high and wages are too low. As your representative, Rudy will support legislation that brings back high-paying jobs and that builds partnerships across sectors and industries. He will fight for fair tax incentives that create jobs and against tax loopholes that put corporate profit over people. Coming from three generations of union labor, Rudy knows that strong worker’s rights are key to robust economies, and he will support legislation that protects the right to collective bargaining and strike for all workers, including public employees.
  • Rebuilding Infrastructure: For Michigan to compete and thrive in the 21st century, we need reliable, cutting-edge infrastructure. Rebuilding Michigan’s infrastructure will create jobs, enhance transportation options, attract businesses, and spur economic growth. With improved infrastructure across the board, Michigan can bolster resilience against future challenges and lay a foundation for sustained development and competitiveness for this century and beyond. As your representative, Rudy will support legislation to build and repair critical infrastructure from roads and bridges to high-speed internet and modern sewers.
  • Education & Job Training: Our children deserve every opportunity for safe, affordable, and high-quality education from pre-K through university and trade schools. And no child’s opportunities should be defined by the ZIP code they are born into. As your representative, Rudy will fight for smaller class sizes, redesigned standardized testing systems, and increased availability of skilled trades training. He will also work to address the teacher shortage by supporting investments in loan-forgiveness programs and efforts to recruit and retain high-quality teachers. An educator himself, Rudy knows that strong schools build strong communities, and he is committed to every family having the best education available.
The cost of everyday living is too high. Childcare is expensive & a barrier to work for many people. High energy costs lead to high prices for groceries, medication, & home utilities. And we have a lack of affordable housing, healthcare, and education across the state. As your representative, Rudy will fight for comprehensive policy that lowers the cost of living for Michiganders & incentivizes businesses to create high-paying jobs with strong benefits. Rudy also supports a woman’s freedom to make her own healthcare decisions with her doctor. He understands that these personal decisions are between a woman and her doctor. And he will put our freedom and healthcare rights first and ensure Michigan remains a safe place to live.
The movie "It's a Wonderful Life" can be seen as a reflection of Rudy Howard's political philosophy, as outlined on his campaign website. In the film, George Bailey's dedication to his community, his selflessness, and his belief in the value of every individual's contributions resonate with Rudy's commitment to public service and community empowerment.

Rudy's background in labor and his family's history of public service demonstrate his dedication to building a strong, supportive community much like George Bailey does in Bedford Falls. Rudy believes in fighting for economic opportunities, workers' rights, and robust infrastructure, which align with George Bailey's efforts to improve the lives of his neighbors by providing affordable housing and standing up against corporate greed.

Moreover, Rudy's focus on education, healthcare, and infrastructure highlights his belief in creating a foundation for long-term success and well-being for everyone in his community, similar to George Bailey's vision of a better, more inclusive Bedford Falls. Rudy's approach to politics, emphasizing collaboration, fairness, and the importance of every individual's role in the community, mirrors the central themes of "It's a Wonderful Life"
In setting up a playlist for campaign events Rudy found himself listening to Taylor Swift's "Only the Young" a lot. This song seems to encapsulate the energy, determination, and potential of the younger generation to effect meaningful change, which is a central theme of this campaign. By focusing on education, community building, economic opportunity, and healthcare, Rudy aims to create a future where the young are empowered to lead and succeed. His campaign and Swift’s song both inspire hope and action, making them a perfect match in their shared vision for a better tomorrow. “They aren't gonna help us, Too busy helping themselves, They aren't gonna change this, We gotta do it ourselves”
Rudy Howard’s political philosophy emphasizes the importance of community and collective action. His dedication to public service and his background in labor and education highlight his understanding of the power of unity and cooperation. Building relationships with other legislators is how the system is designed to work. Rudy understands that our founding fathers designed a government that requires collaboration and compromise to get things done. Working together is how we build an economy that works for all Michiganders not just the billionaires. Building relationships with other legislators is beneficial for crafting effective legislation, advancing community interests, and navigating political challenges. Rudy Howard’s campaign and political philosophy support this collaborative approach to achieve common goals and better serve the community.
