Ruggero Aldisert
Ruggero John Aldisert was a federal appeals judge with the United States Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit in Philadelphia. Aldisert served on senior status from 1986 to 2014. He retired from the federal judiciary in August 2014.[1][2]
Education
Aldisert graduated from University of Pittsburgh with his bachelor's degree in 1941 and later received his J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1947.[2]
Military service
Aldisert served in the United States Marine Corps from 1942 to 1946.[2]
Professional career
Aldisert spent fourteen years in private practice in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, from 1947 to 1961. Next, he joined the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County, where he served as a judge for seven years. During his judicial career, Aldisert also was an adjunct professor for the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.[2]
Judicial career
Aldisert was nominated to serve on the United States Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit by President Lyndon Johnson on July 17, 1968, to a seat vacated by Austin Staley. Aldisert was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on July 29, 1968, and received commission on July 29, 1968. Aldisert served as the as chief judge of the Court from 1984 to 1986 before assuming senior status on December 31, 1986. He retired from the court in August 2014.[2]
