Runyan to face predecessor's widow in 2012 election
February 14, 2012
New Jersey: U.S. Rep. Jon Runyan (R) will likely face his predecessor's widow, Shelley Adler (D), in the 2012 election.[1] So far, Runyan and Adler are the only candidates to declare an intention to run for the 3rd District seat.[2] The filing deadline in New Jersey is April 2.
John Adler was elected to represent New Jersey's 3rd District in 2008 and was defeated by Runyan in 2010.[1] Shelley Adler is a lawyer and served on the Cherry Hill city council from 2004 to 2009.[1][2]
The 3rd District was redistricted following the 2010 census and was made slightly more favorable to Republicans, with Adler's Democratic-leaning hometown of Cherry Hill being moved into the 1st District.[1]
Runyan heads into 2012 with over $500,000 in his campaign fund.[2]
