An effort to recall Selectman Russell Fox did not qualify for the ballot in Southwick, Massachusetts. Organizers did not submit the required 1,786 signatures by the deadline of November 29, 2021.[1][2]

Recall supporters

The group Citizens Reclaiming Southwick organized the recall campaign. Residents initiated the campaign in response to a 2-0 Select Board vote to remove three volunteer members of the Conservation Commission, Agricultural Commission, and Community Preservation Commission. Organizers alleged that the members were removed because they had opposed the development of a Carvana car processing facility in Southwick. Fox had voted in favor of their removal.[3][2]

The Select Board later reinstated two of the three officials.[1]

Recall opponents

In response to the recall campaign, Fox said, "All our meetings are recorded to go online and listen to the meetings. Don’t let people pick and choose, don’t listen to some of the stories and innuendos. Do some research … There’s an attempt by some of these people saying all of a sudden I want to develop Southwick, which couldn’t be further from the truth."[1]
