DeBorde stated that following about his campaign in a Q&A with The Pearland Journal:[5]

Why do you want to be a school board member?
As a current PISD school board member I have been elected for the past two years to serve as the board president by the other six board members and I remain passionate about being an advocate for the students, teachers & staff, parents, and the community that we represent.

In your opinion, what is the role of a trustee?
Basically the role of a trustee is to provide oversight of the school district’s policies, procedures, and budget.

In your opinion, what role does the school board play in terms of financial and administrative oversight?
The answer is basically the same as the previous question; the school board for the most part finalizes and approves the budget and manages district policies and procedures.

What are the most challenging issues facing the district currently?
Funding & testing.

What are your five budget priorities?
I’m not sure you can put a number on it but the list obviously has to start with maintaining a balanced budget, followed by a good balance of funding with an emphasis on actual student educational programs and great teachers. Under my current board term, PISD has been recognized by the state comptroller’s office as being superior in this arena being awarded a five star rating for multiple years. This basically indicates that PISD provides great value when you compare the amount of money we receive in relationship to the testing results we achieve. [6]
