I am Ruth Bittner. I am running in this race for Minnesota House of Representatives because I love the State of Minnesota and I want to see our state flourish. I am eager to be a voice for my district because I want the people in my community to thrive. I attended the University of Minnesota where I earned a B.S. degree in Food Science. I worked as a food scientist at Land O'Lakes, Inc. I eventually started my own business and later began my career as a real estate agent. All of these professional pursuits have prepared me for the work as a legislator. I am a skilled researcher and project manager, I understand business as an entrepreneur, and I have the ability to negotiate and get things done. I am able to forge relationships and build trust. Above all, I am a hard worker and am committed to my clients. I will apply that same commitment to my constituents.
  • I want to represent the people of my community. I will work to be available to the voters so I can understand their needs and wishes. I care about people and I will listen and learn to make wise decisions.
  • I want to foster discussion. I would like to arrive at solutions by working together. I want to be recognized as an individual and not simply as a member of a group. We need to understand that people are individuals first. Oftentimes, individuals have similar goals but might have different approaches as to the methods to reach those goals. If we recognize what we have in common, we can work together successfully.
  • I will work hard and strive for understanding. I will put in the time to understand issues at a deeper level so I can make quality decisions even if the issues are complex.
I am very concerned about eliminating fraud and waste in our state government and would like to see our state operating in a fiscally responsible way. I want to work towards safer communities by ensuring our local police forces have the resources they need to protect us and themselves. Educational excellence is foundational to the success of our students and our communities. I want to prioritize student success in our schools and thereby prepare students for their future success.
Integrity is the most important characteristic of an elected official. A legislator must be able to make quality decisions after thorough research. Rationality must be tempered with compassion. In the end, decisions must be based on facts and evidence and not on opinions. A legislator must be able to do the right thing and not be swayed by personal political gain.
My first job was making cold calls for an insurance agent. It was not fun. I had the job for about 6 months. Then I moved on to Taco Bell and later a waitress for a 50s restaurant. That was a lot more fun!
I am proud that my husband and I designed and built our home on a cul de sac that we also designed. We managed the project of creating a small development and building our home.
