Ruth E. Smith is a judge for the New York City Criminal Court of Kings County, New York. She was assigned to this position in 2003 after being appointed to the New York City Civil Court as an interim judge in June of that year. She was reappointed in December of 2003, 2004, and 2005.[1][2]

Education

Smith received her B.A. degree from Lincoln University in 1981 and her J.D. degree from the Georgetown University School of Law in 1984.[1]

Career

Smith began her career in 1988 as an Assistant New York County District Attorney. She worked in that capacity until 1991. From 1994 to 2003, she served as a Court Attorney and Deputy Chief Court Attorney of the Appellate Division (1st Department). She has also worked as a private practice lawyer. She became an Interim Judge of the Civil Court in June of 2003 and was assigned to the Criminal Court that year.[1][2]
