  • Excerpt: "We need sweeping reforms to our public education system, but they don’t come in the form of competition with “for-profit” charter schools. We need to provide our public schools the resources they need and a more effective and equitable funding model. We need to set educational requirements and benchmarks–Michigan should have the highest standards for our children–but not in a way that fosters “teaching to the test.” And we need to get this ridiculous notion out of our heads that you can improve student and teacher performance by inflicting punishments or restricting resources."

  • Excerpt: "Michigan is at the bottom of the list of states that invest in their cities and communities. In fact, Michigan is the ONLY state to have disinvested revenue sharing over the past 15 years. And our townships have not received statutory revenue sharing since 2005."
