Ryan E. Cronin was a 2016 Democratic candidate for District 6 of the New York State Senate.

Biography

Cronin's professional experience includes working as a litigation attorney. He is a graduate of Chaminade High School (1998), Loyola College in Maryland (2002, B.A. in political science), and the Washington University School of Law in St. Louis (2008, J.D.).[1]

Campaign themes

2016

Cronin's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Corruption

  • Strip public officials of their taxpayer-funded pension when they have been convicted of crimes.
  • End the practice of “double dipping.” A handful of state legislators have figured out a way to game the system by collecting their taxpayer-funded pensions while simultaneously collecting six-figure salaries. The rest of us would need to retire before collecting a pension.

Education Reform

  • Eliminating the Common Core standards that are crippling our education system and preventing our children from receiving a quality education.

Affordability

  • Reduce the property tax burden by supporting measures such as the Property Tax Cap.

Gun Control

  • Protect the Safe Act
  • Sponsor and pass Nicholas’s Law

Child Abuse

  • That is why Ryan supports the Child Victims Act, a bill that would make it easier for child abuse victims to seek justice. This bill would eliminate the criminal and civil statutes of limitations for future victims of child sexual abuse and create a one-year window for previous victims to file civil claims against their attackers and culpable institutions.
  • The victims of such horrific crimes deserve the chance to seek justice. As a new parent, Ryan believes it is reprehensible that his opponent, Kemp Hannon, is refusing to support this bill. When given the choice of standing with either the victims or the predators, Ryan stands with the victims every time.[2]

2012

Cronin's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[4]

  • Lower property taxes and end unfunded mandates
  • Create jobs and strengthen small businesses on Long Island
  • Preserve and expand STAR rebates
  • Work with Governor Cuomo to increase efficiency, transparency and accountability in Albany
  • Stand up for women’s reproductive rights
  • Provide an independent voice for a community starving for new leadership"
