Downton's campaign website highlighted the following issues:
“ |
Fight For Conservative Values: Some people talk about what they might do if they get elected, Ryan has actually done it. Ryan stood up to Obama, fighting for and winning the Texas Redistricting maps that helped Texas elect a record number of Republicans, ensuring you are represented by leaders who share your conservative values. Smaller Government: As a small business owner, Ryan knows small businesses create jobs as the backbone of the Texas Economy. Hardworking Texans deserve to keep more of what they earn, and Ryan will be a force in eliminating burdensome regulations and oppressive taxes. Ryan will work to replace the Margin’s Tax with a simpler, more fair tax plan. And we will be a strong advocate to completely repeal ObamaCare and replace it with a better, common-sense health care solution. Protect Your Water Rights: Water is a precious resource in short supply in all of Texas, especially District 24. We need to protect our water supply and prevent excessive and inefficient diversion by downstream agricultural interests and cities outside of our District. Secure Our Border: The federal government is failing us by not protecting our nation’s border. Ryan will stand on the front lines to increase Texas’ border security, stop the flow of illegal immigrants, and protect our communities by ending sanctuary cities, expanding E-verify and eliminating illegal immigration magnets such as in-state tuition for illegals and employers who hire illegals. Improve Education: As a father, Ryan knows first-hand about the issues facing our education. Ryan will fight to return control to our local school districts, give resources directly to the classroom, and eliminate unfunded mandates. He believes the $1.7 trillion in student loan debt in our country is a major problem and will work for solutions.[1] |
