I started my career as an equipment operator in the mining and heavy construction industry. With time, I worked my way up into management as an estimator and project manager. The projects I was involved in ranged from several hundred thousand dollars up to ten million. Seven years ago it was time for a change of pace and I moved into education. The first few months I spent working as a paraprofessional for a few local school districts until finally settling in at the Winlock School District. In 2021 my family and I moved to Winlock to become permanent residents and the Winlock School District became a home for them. My wife is in her second year as a teacher there and my children have flourished as athletes and honor students. Few careers could be more satisfying than that of shaping the pathways for future generations to take.
But as the dynamics in education have changed, especially after the Covid pandemic, I have decided my skills could better serve the students of Winlock as a school district director. So please consider me, Ryan Gaylor, as your representative on the Winlock school board.- Behavior is one the biggest challenges students are facing. Be it an overly disruptive student or one that’s being bullied, having worked with nearly all the students in this district, I feel I have the best perspective on how to help each one.
- I would refer back to my first key message, behavior. Challenging behavior creates an incredible amount of teacher burnout. Having worked in the three schools here in Winlock, I have gotten to know most the staff. I listen to their voice and empathize with them completely.
- Last but not least would be the budget. Like many schools, Winlock has been hit hard with budget shortfalls. My many years in estimating and project management have well suited me to know how a large budget works. You can not spend more money that you bring in. I have a unique knack for knowing a good idea from a bad idea. This upcoming school board has a huge responsibility in making sure that our staff and students have the necessary resources to be successful.
