Biography

Ryan Gonzalez was born in Sylmar, California. He earned both a bachelor's and a graduate degree from the University of Northern Colorado in 2018. His career experience includes working at Wells Fargo.^[1]

First generation American who cares about the future and direction of this country and has a deep love for the American people. Grew up in a low income household and became first in my family to obtain a college degree from the University of Northern Colorado.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Mental Health, little attention and action on this subject. This is a vital part of our country that needs to be addressed to help combat gun violence, homelessness, and crime.

Climate a Change, it's a threat. We need to propose viable and realistic solutions to help protect the environment and ecosystems.

Immigration, reform that works and is not unfair. Families and even lives depend on sensible and moral reforms.

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?

My mother, she made me who I am. She's a strong and powerful person. I look up to my Lord, Christ when he walked this earth, his own people rejected him, and the trials he went through. It gives me hope if my Lord overcame such trials, I can overcome anything.

Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy?

The Road To Serfdom

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

Honesty, Integrity, Accountability, and transparency.

What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?

My connection to the people. Being honest about my agenda, and myself. Wanting to deliver solutions to the people.

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

Put people over profits, country over party, and represent their constituents.

What legacy would you like to leave?

"He did exactly what he said he would do."

What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?

9-11. I was in 1st grade and remember people being scared, sad, and terrified of the ordeal that took place. I remember my teacher trying to explain it in the most appropriate way. The next day, all the classroom doors had the headlines of newspapers "America Attacked."

What is your favorite book? Why?

The Bible, helps me grow my faith every day and is my comfort.

If you could be any fictional character, who would you want to be?

What qualities does the U.S. House of Representatives possess that makes it unique as an institution?

It's powers granted by the constitution. It's the people's house. The founders envisioned a government for the people, by the people, and of the people. The framework for the US House is to pass legislation while also separating powers of the legislative branch (forming the two chambers of congress). They set the bar lower in ways that it's a 2 year term, and you must be 25 years of age to run.

Do you believe that it's beneficial for representatives to have previous experience in government or politics?

No, sometimes they bring bad experience. In order for a government to work more efficiently, there must be a constant influx of fresh new faces and ideas. We have this notion that in politics you must have certain criteria to qualify. When in reality that criteria is the problem and we see that in the current congress. Wealthy, well connected elites. One must love this country, know the constitution, and bring people together.

What do you perceive to be the United States’ greatest challenges as a nation over the next decade?

The people working in our government. The same elites and establishment folk who have profited off of their positions and stopped working for the people. These same people have put us in debt, driven a wedge on dividing people, done little to fix our problems in our country.

If you are not a current representative, are there certain committees that you would want to be a part of?

Intel committee, foreign affairs committee, health and education committee, and energy committee.

Do you believe that two years is the right term length for representatives?

Of course.

What are your thoughts on term limits?

We need them to flush out these career politicians who have gotten rich off of their position. It's a public service, not public life.

If you are not currently a member of your party’s leadership in the U.S. House of Representatives, would you be interested in joining the leadership? If so, in what role?

Possibly, I lead more from doing my part in serving my district.

Is there a particular representative, past or present, whom you want to model yourself after?
