I was born and raised in Casper but spent many years abroad. I have done volunteer work in Brazil, Belize, Mexico, Guatemala, Haiti, and other countries. I have training as a physician and also in business administration, education, and public health.
  • I am from Wyoming and support Wyoming values.
  • I have the training and experience to help get our economy back on its feet while working to preserve the well-being of our people.
  • Wyoming has been blessed in many ways, we have to do our part to keep our state strong and safe.
Our priorities over the next few years will be the economy, healthcare, and education. I have significant experience in all three of those. I was the dean of a medical school for 8 1/2 years training physicians and maintaining the educational standards. I have run several businesses and nonprofits over the years- including my own businesses. I benefited from the Wyoming education and culture and I want to give back.
My grandfather taught me the value of hard work and honesty. I admire him above anyone else. He lived through the depression and was shot down in World War II and never gave up. He went through good times and bad in the oil fields of Wyoming and had to start a sewer and drain cleaning business to make ends meet. He taught me to never take a dime I didn't earn and to treat everyone with respect.
Elected officials are there to represent the people and make decisions which will be in the best interest of those people they represent. Egos should be left out and they should seek guidance to know what will benefit the people and preserve the integrity of the state.
I want to leave this world a little bit better than I found it so my daughter and others won't have to struggle as much as I have.
My first job was cleaning sewers and drains with my grandfather. I did it all through high school.
Don Quixote has been my favorite since I read it in the original Spanish (as different from modern Spanish as Shakespearean English is from English). There is a lot of humor and intelligent commentary on the politics of the time and a man who may be mad, but he sticks to his values and fights for what is right.
During the year that I spent on the ground in Haiti, I lived with a local family in order to use the money from the nonprofit for medications and supplies rather than my own comfort. Nearly all of that time, I didn't have running water or electricity so I couldn't even run a fan in the sweltering heat. It was difficult to sleep and it was hard during the day. My own discomfort was nothing compared to the misery I saw among the people who lost so much. I worked with people who lost limbs as their homes collapsed. I worked with mothers who lost all of their children and children who lost their parents. I saw so much suffering, and in the midst of their suffering, I saw many find hope and healing. As I think of the peace in the faces of people who lost everything, I can't honestly say that I have ever struggled- not when I was raised by a single mother on welfare, not when I almost lost my eye in a freak accident as a child, not when I had a corrupt official in Haiti threatening my life and my freedom if I didn't turn over half a million dollars worth of medication. I am so grateful for the blessings in my life- including those that I saw as trials at the time.
I think that it's more important for them to have real life experience so they can understand the needs of their constituents.
The economy has been struggling with the pandemic and the low prices of oil, natural gas, and coal. We need to get those things going while also diversifying our sources of income and drawing new industries to the state.

Healthcare in Wyoming is extremely expensive when compared to Montana and other neighboring states. We need to work to get rid of waste as we improve quality.

Education is always a priority. If we don't ensure that our students are getting a good education then they won't be ready to work in trades or go on to universities to train for other careers.
Colleagues in any profession need to treat each other with mutual respect. In politics, there are many complex issues that can polarize people but we need to be able to see things from the other perspective as we calmly, but passionately, explain why we believe our perspective to be correct. If we don't respect the others, then there will be fights with no progress.
