I'm a parent, attorney, and long-time volunteer who cares deeply about public schools.
  • My philosophy is that people tend to support their public schools the more they know about them. That's especially true in places like Evansville, where we have a strong admin team and great teachers. Parents and other community members need to know what the District is doing—and especially how referendum funds are being used—so that their support stays strong.
  • We need to attract and retain strong teachers so that we have generational strength, with veteran teachers raising a new crop of high-quality teachers. Conversely, if we fail to support teachers we can fall into a cycle of hiring inexperienced teachers and giving them unappealing positions where they have too much responsibility and little guidance.
  • I'm a huge supporter of the arts and extra-curricular activities generally. Public schools need to be a place where ALL students feel included and are able to thrive. This is only possible with diverse opportunities for kids beyond academics.
Strongly funding public schools rather than privately run schools; the separation between church and state; and protecting students' civil rights generally.
Integrity, a commitment to continuously learn, and a willingness to listen to multiple perspectives.
Asking important questions about District decisions, bringing new ideas to the table, and ensuring the community understands what the District is doing and why.
Implementing and improving district policies.
All community members within the District—students, parents, and those who vote on things like school referendums.
I strongly believe that public schools must be welcoming to all students, and that staff needs must be prioritized. The community also needs to be kept informed. These all must be done in a variety of ways.
I will utilize social media and encourage public input at board meetings and community listening sessions. Anywhere people are gathered is a good, efficient spot to engage various stakeholders.
Why is the ocean salty? Because you never wave back.
Evansville Education Association (union for teachers and EAs), Wisconsin Progress, Rock County Dems
It depends on the students, so teachers need to be flexible. But generally, smaller class sizes and a diversity of learning opportunities and a teacher who is flexible enough to implement them.
Engagement through social media and listening to all concerns openly.
Working with the admin team to recruit high-quality individuals, and being aware of potential systemic inequity concerns.
I strongly support transparency in government, so long as it's not a tool for obstructing good government operations.
