Ryan is a software developer by trade, resident of Dyersville and father to three step-children. First coming to Dubuque county in 1998, Ryan fell in love with the area and has lived in the county for 14 of the last 20 years including the last four years in Dyersville. Ryan has been an active volunteer in political campaigns since childhood and when he learned that the District 57 seat in the Iowa legislature would likely go uncontested he stepped up and accepted the Democratic nomination. Iowans deserve a choice and a chance to reverse the course our state and nation have been on .
  • Full fund public schools and restore the collective bargaining rights of teachers and other state employees.
  • Ensure affordable and accessible healthcare for all Iowans.
  • Make the minimum wage a living wage because working families deserve a chance at the American dream.
I am passionate about fighting for working families in Iowa. Growing up poor and experiencing homelessness first hand I know the daily struggle too many families face. I want to fight for them and do my part to ensure the American dream is an achievable reality for the next generation.
When I was in elementary school I accompanied my parents to canvas in the 1984 presidential campaign. I remember meeting union workers who had worked hard jobs all day but still sacrificed their evenings to work for a better future for their communities. I was inspired from a young age by the story of my 4th great grandmother Julia Busby Bowen who fought for women's rights and was elected to her local school board in 1876 , long before her right to participate through the vote was recognized.
A member of the legislature's core role is to act as a voice for the people of their community and to represent their interests.
My dearest hope in seeking to represent the people of district 57 is for their children and mine to have greater opportunities than I did and to help ensure our towns and family farms can prosper well into the future.
Hey Jude by the Beatles. There is something about it that after hearing it it stays with you all day.
Our state and nation face great challenges in overcoming division and working together to achieve a better future for our children.
A collaborative relationship between the executive and legislative branch is essential for the creation of good policy but it is just as important that the legislature act as a check on executive power and ensure good government that works for the people.
I favor an impartial and independent redistricting process and am in favor of transparent processes using modern methods.
I never expected to run for office and hope to serve my community. I am not thinking about a career in politics. It is so much more important that dedicated people work for the benefit of their communities rather than themselves.
