S. Sean Monemi was a candidate for representative on the Walnut Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees in California. The general election was held on November 3, 2015. Monemi lost the election.[1]
Monemi was a candidate for an at-large seat on the Walnut Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees. He was opposed by three other candidates in an election that took place on November 5, 2013.
Biography
Monemi is a professor of engineering professor with California State Polytechnic University. He earned his Ph.D. and his Master's degree from Vanderbilt University. He earned his Bachelor's degree from Alabama A&M University. He has served as a volunteer for the YMCA, United Way and AYSO.[2]

2015
Two seats on the Walnut Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees were up for general election on November 3, 2015.[3][4] The seats held by incumbents Larry Redinger and Phillip Chen were on the ballot.[5] The two incumbents defeated challenger S. Sean Monemi.[1][6]

Funding
At the time of this election, the Los Angeles Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk did not publish school board candidate campaign finance reports online. Ballotpedia staffers requested this information, but the only free method of viewing the files was at their office.
The Los Angeles Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk targeted the end of 2018 to make school board candidate campaign finance reports available online for free. From that point forward, Ballotpedia began including campaign finance data for Los Angeles County school board candidates.[7][8][9]
The first campaign finance reporting deadline was September 24, 2015, and the second one was October 22, 2015. If candidates raised or spent more than $1,000 from a single source, including their own funds, between August 5, 2015, and November 2, 2015, they had to file a campaign finance report within 24 hours.[10]

Monemi was endorsed by the community organization Evolve.[11]

S. Sean Monemi was opposed by three candidates including incumbents Helen M. Hall and Cindy M. Ruiz as well as challenging candidate Y. Tony Torng for three seats on the Walnut Valley Unified School District School Board.[12]

On November 5, 2013, Helen Hall, Cindy M. Ruiz and Y. Tony Torng defeated one challenging candidate for three seats on the WVUSD Board of Education.

Monemi did receive official endorsements from Walnut Valley Educators Association (WVEA), California Faculty Association-local chapter (CFA), California School Employees Association (CSEA) and LA County Federation of Labor (COPE).[13]
