Sabino "Pio" Renteria
Sabino Renteria was a member of the Austin City Council in Texas, representing District 3. Renteria assumed office in 2015. Renteria left office on January 6, 2023.
Renteria ran for re-election to the Austin City Council to represent District 3 in Texas. Renteria won in the general runoff election on December 11, 2018.
Renteria was one of ten new Austin City Council members who were elected in the city's first district-based election in 2014. Because city council members in Austin serve staggered four-year terms, the new council was divided into two groups by lot. Members sorted into the first group were designated to serve four-year terms, and members sorted into the second group were designated to serve two-year terms and run for a full four-year term in 2016. Renteria was sorted into the first group to serve a four-year term.[1][2]

The city of Austin held elections for city council on November 4, 2014. The candidate filing deadline was August 18, 2014. Because of redistricting and term limits, there was no incumbent for District 3.[3] Candidates included Susana Almanza, Mario Cantu, Julian Limon Fernandez, Christopher L. Hoerster, Shaun D. Ireland, Fred McGhee, Kent K. Phillips, Jose Quintero, Eric J. Rangel, Sabino "Pio" Renteria, Ricardo Turullols-Bonilla and Jose A. Valera. Because no candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote in the general election, the top two vote-getters - Almanza and Renteria - faced each other in a runoff election on December 16, 2014.[4][5] Renteria was the winner.[6]
