Hawaii: The Hawaii State Senate unanimously confirmed Judge Sabrina S. McKenna to the Hawaii Supreme Court yesterday. The confirmation of McKenna makes history twice. It marks the first time two women will serve on the court simultaneously and the first time an openly gay justice will serve on the court.[1]

After the vote, McKenna said, "I feel like I'm living a dream, an American dream, that it is possible to come from humble beginnings and achieve the highest heights. I'm just honored to be here."[1]

With only four justices currently serving the court, Chief Justice Mark Recktenwald has urged to have McKenna sworn in within the next month.[1]
