Sabrina Shrader was a 2016 Democratic candidate for District 27 of the West Virginia House of Delegates.[1]

Campaign themes

2016

Shrader's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Participation

  • Sabrina and her husband have been very active members of the Our Children, Our Future Campaign to end child poverty in WV. Our Children, Our Future is a coalition of 100+ non-profit organizations in West Virginia. Sabrina is an active member of the National Association of Social Workers, Board Member for Legal Aid of West Virginia, and Board member of WV Healthy Kids. Additionally, Sabrina has written grants for non-profits as well as being involved in the Try This! Movement in WV. A group of people that work to make WV healthier by encouraging active lifestyles, more natural, farm fresh foods, and innovative ways of eliminating childhood obesity.

Representation

  • Sabrina believes in fair representation. If elected she vows to always seek out her constituent’s opinions and thoughts regarding issues facing our great state. She believes that while you are electing a person, the voter is ultimately her boss.

Faith

  • Sabrina was raised in churches in McDowell and her faith is an essential part of who she is. She believes that God’s greatest commandment is to LOVE. Through Jesus’s sacrifice she believes that Love covers a multitude of sins. She often quotes the scripture, Matthew 22 36-40, which says, “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law? Jesus replied: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hand on these two commandments” – KJV. All people deserve love, and no sin is greater than another.

Jobs

  • Sabrina knows that good paying jobs will be the crux of Southern West Virginia’s story of recovery. Right to Work and other pieces of legislation designed to shift the wages from hard working West Virginian’s to wealthy 1%’s are the first barrier to overcome. This type of manipulation of the system destroys the middle class, creates more poverty, and increases the bank accounts of the top 1%. In most cases, the profits are shifted out of state, and do not benefit the folks of West Virginia. Such is West Virginia’s story, wealthy outsiders coming in, and making even more money from the blood, sweat and tears of our people. Coal and natural gas are an important part of our state’s economy and will be for some time. As the international market for Coal ebbs and flows, we find our people without good paying jobs and left, once again, in poverty. To combat this, we need to find other industries that are suitable for our hard working citizens. We must find good paying jobs to replace those lost. West Virginia is a beautiful place to live and work, why not pursue all possible industries to locate here. Instead of blocking Tesla Motors from being sold here, we should throw open the doors and welcome them with open arms, show them some of the Southern Hospitality that we are known for![2]
