I retired as a Navy Commander 18 years ago & returned to Harnett County, NC, where I grew up. After entering Officer Candidate School at age 34, I completed 21 years active duty. I have a B.S.from UNC-Greensboro, an MS in Administration from Central Michigan University, & I also completed the Army Command and General Staff College & The Joint Services Colllege. In the Navy, I served in staff & leadership positions ashore, including: Commanding Officer, of a Training Center for Sailors & Marines; Action Officer for General Shelton on The joint Staff; Chief Staff Officer of our Fleet Activities facility in Sasebo, Japan (resonsible for everything on facility where 5000 military members, families & US civilian employees worked/resided); Executive Officer of a surface ship repair facility; Ass't Repair Officer/Repair Admin Officer for a nuclear subarine repair facility; Flag Secretary for Admiral responsible for Combat Logistics Ships in Northern CA; Evaluation Division Officer for Surface Warfare Officers School Command; DIvision Officer for Officer Admin Separations at the Navy Personnel Command. I am known for being fair and treating everyone equally.
  • Everyone should have affordable medical care that is available and accessible. NC must expand Medicaid.
  • I will support efforts for better education starting with pre-K & continuing with expanded vocational training opportunities. Teacher compensation must be fair & competitive. We must work to get better broadband/internet accessibility.
  • I will work to bring businesses to NC that hire NC citizens & pay a living wage & fair wages.
Medical issues - everyone must have access to preventative care. I believe it costs us more in the long run when people do not have proper medical care. Employers suffer the consequences of employee absences or who where unable to have affordable health care.of employess due to medical problems. Taxpayers bear the burden of those

Education - Public Education is what has made our country a land of opportunity. Investing in the best education opportunities is necessary to have people ready to enter the work force. Teachers must be better compensated in order to attract & retain quality teachers. Remote learning has shown that a priority is broadband/internet service so that no one is left without & can participate in virtual learning.

Climate Change - We have to face reality & take responsible actions now.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg. I always admired her abloutely equal consideration of all people. There are many others I also admire.
integrity, decency honesty, ability to work with others, listener, promotes diversity
Integrity, honesty, leadership experience, experience working with people of many different backgrounds, empathy
You represent all the people, not just yourself.

You must be available to all in your District, regardless of party affiliation.
You cannot be "bought" by anyone or any entity.

You will listen and educate yourself on all issues before you.
That I worked tirelessly for better lives for the people of my District and all of NC.
Korean War I was 3 - 6 during that time. My father, a WWll veteran, would talk to me about things on TV.
First job after college was in retail store management for a large Department Store. I started as a Department Manager in Ladies' Wear, progressed to Division Manager for many Departments, & finally was an Ass't Store Manager.
I was there over 11 years.
Dictionary. I like learning new words, but, mainly, I like to ckeck that usage of a word is appropriate for the circumstances.
The quest to understand those who are willfully ignorant, who make excuses for their own or others' despicable behavior, who refuse to see /treat other human beings equally.
Personal opinion...Representatives in the House represent people in a smaller District in which they live; Senators represent much larger areas. When the House is acting on legislation, they have smaller areas, known to them, which they are considering regarding the impact of new or revised laws. When it goes to the Senate, the individual Senators see things in regards to effects on a much larger areas. The smaller number of Senators working together can better gauge the feasibility of leislation as it affects the whole State.
Yes. They tend to have a better basic understanding about legislation affecting the whole entity rather than just the area in which they live.
Growth expanding to rural areas. The spillover from the larger cities to surrounding counties puts a burden on counties es pecially regarding education and services such as police, fire & medical. For instance, a new subdivision will add several hundred children to an already over crowded school system. We need to re-look impact fees and other issues.

Better education, esp pre-K and vocational training. Teacher compensation that attracts & retains the most qualified educators.

Governor as strong leader working with a legislature that determines what can be done that is in best interest of people, not being distracted by what cannot be done.
Absolutely. We have to build relationships to understand one another to allow us to work together effectively. We need to understand our strengths and weaknesses and work for common strength.
Independent entity. Keep it away from legislators' influence.
Not necessarily as I would like to see those younger than I with a future in government/politics get the experience
