I'm a 59-year-old native Texan with a wonderful husband, two grown kids, and a sweet mother who relies on me to manage her affairs. Since earning my business degree in finance from UT Austin, I've worked as an investment analyst, an accountant, and a consultant. Currently, I manage my mom's business and take care of her property in northern Hays County where I have been lucky enough to live since January 2021. By nature, I am a problem solver and a fighter for underdogs everywhere. My core values are honesty and integrity. I admire intelligence, and I believe in science. I love diversity and, when I'm your representative, I'll be sure to hire a staff that represents and respects all sorts of people.
  • I believe that women in Texas are in deep trouble. Governor Abbott's current 6-week abortion ban, with its poorly written exception for the health of the mother, poses a mortal risk to women and it must be reformed or repealed immediately. I know that my Republican neighbors supported the passage of this law with the best of intentions; however, in reality, it's causing doctors to consult with lawyers before providing medical care, and those delays have caused some women to lose their ability to have more children. The US Supreme Court said that states should decide this issue, so I will propose that Texans be allowed to vote on it as other states have done.
  • Our democracy and our economy rely on a well-educated citizenry, but the Texas legislature has failed to fulfill its obligation to provide adequate funds for a system of free, public schools. When I'm your representative, I will vote to raise the basic allotment per student and index it to inflation so that politicians can never again hold our kids' futures hostage while they pursue other goals. Also, the Governor's private school voucher plan will result in our tax dollars going to fund religious organizations or subsidize dividends for shareholders in for-profit schools. Neither outcome is acceptable. This plan will be passed into law next year if my rural Republican neighbors continue to vote as they always have.
  • My folks raised me to always leave a place better than when I found it, so I feel strongly that we have a duty to care for our environment and climate. When elected, I will work to implement laws that protect and conserve our precious water resources. I will also push for Texas to do more to cut our emissions of greenhouse gasses and increase our capacity to generate electricity from renewable sources.
I believe that our birthright as Americans includes a free education for our children, a functioning democracy, and freedom from government overreach into our private lives. As your representative, I will work with anyone, regardless of party affiliation, to achieve these goals.
The most important characteristics for an elected official are honesty and integrity. My favorite politicians from the past all exhibited these admirable traits, like Dwight Eisenhower, Abe Lincoln, Ann Richards and Barbara Jordan.
State representatives should listen to the residents of their district and try to solve their problems while staying true to their own values.
When I was 5-years-old, I remember my parents waking me up to watch Apollo 11 achieve the first moon landing. Since then, I've always been in awe of the great things that governments are capable of, whether it's building bridges, fighting fascism, or expanding rights for minorities.
Building relationships with other legislators is a necessity because lawmaking is a team sport. Collaborating with other lawmakers is required to pass good laws and to prevent bad laws from passing.
Texans should have a state ballot initiative process because then they could effect change directly without needing to rely on a gerrymandered legislature.
