Campaign themes

2013

O'Callaghan's campaign website listed the following issues for 2013:[3]

Expectation of Excellence

"In order to improve student academic performance, I would propose that CPS create and maintain an Expectation of Excellence for both students and teachers. To do this, we would need:

  • Frequent monitoring of student progress as opposed to basing this assessment on just one high-stakes test per year."

Quality Preschool for All

"I would also propose that we make sure all of our students have access to quality preschool.

  • Allowing the opportunity for quality Preschool for all of our students will level the playing field between our upper and lower income students."

Address Mobility

"I would directly address the issue of mobility. Our schools with the highest rates of mobility see 1 out of every 3 children moving during the school year.

  • I would propose offering transitional classrooms in every neighborhood primary school building."

Community Building

"We need to continue to foster the community building that is happening within our district. Our families need to know they are our most valuable resource and that we respect and appreciate them.

  • As a board member, I would be accessible and accountable to all of our families."
