Campaign themes
2014
Baldenegro's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]
Economy
- Excerpt: "Building a sustainable Arizona's economy, by promoting small business development, pushing to make Arizona the number one solar energy state in the U.S., and supporting legislation to bring the film industry to Arizona. Furthermore, I will adamantly reject and stand up against extremist Republican legislation that is damaging the Arizona brand, and crippling our economy."
Education
- Excerpt: "Strengthening and bringing funding back to public schools. I am a product of public schools, I work at a public school, and I coach/mentor students at a public school. That is why I am on the frontlines to protect public education, and it is the reason why I organized community efforts, last year, to stop the closing of eleven TUSD schools. We have no greater resource than our children, and I will ensure their right to a quality education. I will bring funding back to our public schools, and I will fight for our children."
Environment
- Excerpt: "Protecting our environment. I am very active in conservation efforts, and promoting sustainability in our community. I've organized outreach efforts to educate our community on conservation, and how to reduce our dependence on coal and fossil fuels. I will get past the politics that are preventing us from being the number one solar energy state in the country. Furthermore, I will not let coal and utilities lobbyists continue to dictate energy policy in our state."
Gun safety
- Excerpt: "Rejecting the Tea Party Republicans' dangerous gun legislation. I care deeply about the safety of our community, which is why, in 2013, I organized a group that stopped the giveaway of free shotguns in Tucson neighborhoods. I will prioritize the safety of our community, and I will bring safety and common sense to the debate surrounding guns."
Gender Equality
- Excerpt: "Standing up for gender equality, and fighting back against the Republican attacks on women's rights. As the son of a one of the founding members of the Pima County/Tucson Women's Commission, I grew up instilled with strong feminist values. I will protect women's rights, and stand up for gender equality."
