Candidate Connection

Sam Allen participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on January 12, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Sam Allen's responses follow below.[1]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

1) Ensure that civil process is properly executed 100% of the time

2) Increase the professionalism, organization, and frequency of the constable's office
3) Increase involvement with community policing[2][3]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

The priority of the constable’s office must be ensuring that civil process is properly executed and returned to the courts on time, 100% of the time. The constable’s office has a constitutional duty to execute civil process and that duty should always come first. I will review the processes and procedures in Precinct 4 and work with the deputies to identify and implement ways to organize, prioritize, and streamline the office’s dedication to this important function that helps ensure equal and fair access to the courts. The constable’s office has a tremendous opportunity in its remaining time to focus on community engagement and crime prevention through community policing strategies. I will work with community stakeholders to identify areas where the constable’s office can collaborate to help reduce opportunities for crime and reduce recidivism among low-level offenders. I am not afraid to examine the areas that many others don’t want to touch – such as the 296 registered sex offenders in Dallas who are categorized as “violent” or “high” risk for re-offending, or the fact that the criminal justice system in Texas somehow provides the bulk of public mental health services – and work with community partners to make Dallas County a safer, better place for all persons.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[3]

Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Sam Allen answered the following:

What is your favorite book? Why?

Herbert Brown's ""Legendary Black Lawmen and Tales of the Buffalo Soldiers"" and Brynn Baker's ""Buffalo Soldiers: Heroes of the American West""[3]
