Sam Crow was an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the District of Kansas. He joined the court in 1981 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan. His service ended on December 2, 2022, upon his death.[1]

Early life and education

A native of Kansas, Crow graduated from the University of Kansas-Lawrence with his bachelor's degree in 1949 and later graduated from Washburn Law School with his juris doctoral degree in 1952. Crow also served in the US Navy as a Sea man from 1944 to 1945 during the Korean Conflict and also served in the Army Reserve in the JAG Corps from 1953 to 1954.[1]

Professional career

Crow spent his entire pre-judicial legal career in Private practice in the State of Kansas from 1952 to 1953 and from 1954 to 1975.[1]

Judicial career

District of Kansas

Crow started his Federal judicial career as a federal magistrate judge for the District of Kansas from 1975 to 1981. In 1981, on the Recommendation of Senator Bob Dole, Crow was nominated by President Ronald Reagan on November 24, 1981 to a seat vacated by Frank G. Theis as Theis assumed senior status. Crow was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on December 9, 1981 on a Senate vote and received commission on December 10, 1981. Crow later assumed senior status on November 15, 1996. His service ended on December 2, 2022, upon his death.[1] Crow was succeeded in this position by Carlos Murguia.
