Sam Cummings
Samuel Ray Cummings is a federal judge on senior status with the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas. He joined the court in 1987 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan.
Early life and education
Born in Lubbock, Texas, Cummings graduated from Texas Tech University with his bachelor's in business administration in 1967 and from Baylor University School of Law with his J.D. in 1970.[1]

Cummings was nominated to the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas by President Ronald Reagan on July 31, 1987, to a seat vacated by Halbert O. Woodward. Hearings on Cummings' nomination were held before the Senate Judiciary Committee on November 13, 1987, and his nomination was reported by then-U.S. Sen. Joseph Biden (D-Del.) on December 3, 1987. Cummings was confirmed by the unanimous consent of the U.S. Senate on December 8, 1987, and he received his commission the next day. Cummings elected to take senior status beginning on December 31, 2014.[1][2]
