I'm Sam Soghor and I'm not towing a party line. I'm here to offer robust representation for all citizens of the 24th District. If I go to Richmond everyone's voice will be in the room. I'm a parent in Amherst who is looking out not just for my family but for entire school community as well. I am a member of the County Superintendent's Community Advocacy Committee and I am a volunteer research assistant with the Amherst Historical Society. I am a student of politics and history and have a career in theater and film. Grandmothers in Amherst asked me to run for County School Board but then when no one was going to oppose the incumbent's reelection, I was asked to step up and offer an alternative to the poor performance of the incumbent. There is so much anger across the political spectrum and I have had enough of the partisanship that divides us. I believe if we want to excel as a District and a Nation we have to find common ground and move forward together. I'm about peace and love and I talk with everyone. These conversations are important for our future, we have to keep having conversations in our communities. Wedge issues are meant keep us segmented and all the while the 24th District neglected. If I'm elected I will fairly and loudly represent all District points of view in Richmond, all the while doing the work of getting funding and resources for schools, businesses, farmers, families, and forests.
  • Education. We must ensure that all student's in the 24th District have quality internet access at home. My opponent, Ronnie Campbell was the only member of the House of Delegates - Democrat or Republican - to vote against a bill that expands broadband in underserved areas of the Commonwealth. We need new leadership that is not going to stand in the way of all of our student's success.
  • Healthcare. In the 24th District you're likely to live at least 30 minutes drive from a major medical center. There is no maternity ward in the entire 24 District. We must get the work done in Richmond to improve our access to medicine in the 24th District.
  • Legalized Cannabis. Legal cannabis is here, whether you like it or not, and I want to make sure that our farmers and entrepreneurs get all the tools and resources we can get for them from Richmond so that our District can make the most of the tax revenue generated by this exciting new industry. Cannabis is a proven medicine for a wide array of ailments and so regulated adult access can make our communities healthier and safer.
I want to make sure that our farmers are taken care of. Agricultural and forestry regulations that help to protect soil and water can actually be win win all around: farmers save money and get better productivity while we all benefit from a healthier ecosystem and the best quality produce and products. We must make sure that Richmond ensures that success of farmers, whether big operations or local farmers markets, with all of the funding and personnel necessary. We must remove undue burdens on our farmers because their success is tied to all of us since they are producing the food we eat.
We must find compromises. Right now the parties are not having good communication in Richmond. Republicans are not being heard in Richmond. But, some of the budget amendments that Republicans proposed made sense for the common good. If the parties are fighting so bitterly the populace misses out on getting the best from the State. Communication is key. It's imperative that we pump the brakes on partisanship and make compromises on common sense legislation that serves all citizens of the Commonwealth. The incumbent in District 24, Ronnie Campbell, was stripped of a committee assignment because of his extreme politics. Right now, because of my current Delegate's refusal to work with the rest of the House, the 24th District has diminished representation and there is less actually getting done for us. That's a shame and I intend to correct this injustice, if elected.
