Campaign themes

2012

On his campaign website Sims had listed 10 leading issues that he was concerned about. They were:[2]

  • Term Limits and Retirement: "I have signed a petition for the U.S. Term Limits lobby, agreeing to serve for only three terms. I have also agreed to sponsor legislation that would impose term limits on the House of Representatives, allowing representatives to serve three terms and only allowing the Senate to serve two terms. I will sponsor legislation to end congressional retirement. We are not here to enrich ourselves. We are here to serve the people of the United States."
  • Immigration: Excerpt: "First and foremost, secure both northern and southern borders. Increase funding for Immigration and Naturalization Services as well as the Border Patrol. DEPORT ALL ILLEGAL ALIENS CONVICTED OF CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES BACK TO THEIR COUNTRY OF ORIGIN. Levy destructive fines on employers hiring illegal immigrants. Consider some form of guest worker program that would eventually lead to citizenship, allowing them to be on the tax rolls and contributing to American society. No immigrant naturalized under the guest worker program as outlined above, would not be able to sponsor anyone into the United States."
  • Republican Party: Excerpt: "I do believe Republicans have ignored their most powerful ally-the working man. As a common man, I have experienced political parties who request support and funding as well as time but do not want input or suggestions."
  • Economic: Excerpt: "Mandatory balanced budget and mandatory 5% debt reduction plan annually. The debt ceiling will not be raised. Tax reform-Possibility of a fair tax. This concept of a flat tax needs work in order to determine the proper levels of taxation but I do like the concept."
  • Energy: Excerpt: "I support the idea of alternative energy. We should consider alternative forms of energy as long as they are feasible and profitable. This should not occur through government mandate but by market demand. Oil company tax breaks should remain intact."
  • Environmental: Excerpt: "I am not sure global warming exists. A report was given to the Nixon Administration in the early 1970's that suggested global warming catastrophes may occur in thirty years. This report indicated rising sea levels may destroy coastal cities. It is now forty years later and New York still stands... It is time for Americans to take responsible actions to protect the environment as well as protect our economic growth. Until our major competitors are held to the same environmental compliance standards as the United States, we must maintain policies that allow our country to be competitive."
  • Healthcare: Excerpt: "For those who cannot obtain health insurance for medical reasons, we could offer Medicaid and charge premiums that would be compatible with market rates of healthy individuals. Develop insurance pools that would allow small businesses to ban together and purchase health insurance for their employees at economical rates. Promote competition for health insurance by allowing interstate competition. Reform malpractice laws. Reform debt collection laws on medical bills. Primary residences should never be attached or liquidated for medical debt. In other words, you would never lose your home due to medical debts. Reform wage garnishment laws. By reforming specific practices within debt collection, it would help make medical debt less burdensome."
  • Unions: Excerpt: "I truly support blue collar unions as well as the concept of the service employees union although I DO NOT support the power the service employee union yields within elections. The American worker is what makes this country great and should be protected at all costs. The power of the unions in all federal and state elections needs to be broken as local and national unions have used their power as a tool (primarily for the Democratic party) to gain additional power and influence in the United States government. I believe they forget the needs of the rank and file members."
  • Israel: Excerpt: "I support Israel and always will. Obama's speech on May 19, 2011 suggested Israel negotiate with the Palestinians whom are backed by Hamas.Obama also suggested Israel revert back to the 67 borders of which I believe to be total insanity."
  • Gun Control: "I support private ownership up to and including concealed carry."
