Samantha Ruiz-Cohen is a judge of the Florida 11th Circuit Court. Her current term ends on January 2, 2029.

Ruiz-Cohen won re-election for judge of the Florida 11th Circuit Court outright in the general election on November 8, 2022, after the primary and general election were canceled.

She was elected to the circuit court on August 24, 2010, and was officially sworn in to office in February 2011. She was re-elected to a new six-year term in 2016.[1][2][3][4]

Education

Ruiz-Cohen was born in New York City, but raised in Miami. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Miami in 1988. She received her J.D. degree from Hofstra University and was admitted to the Bar in 1992.[5][6]

Career

Ruiz-Cohen began her legal career working in the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office, where she became a Division Chief, supervisor and Office Training Director. She has also taught as an adjunct professor at Florida International University.[5]

General election

The general election was canceled. Samantha Ruiz-Cohen (Nonpartisan) won without appearing on the ballot.

2016

Florida's 20 circuit courts all had seats up for election in 2016. Of the 151 seats up for election, 125 saw only one candidate file for the election. The unopposed races were canceled and the sole candidates were automatically elected. Of the 26 opposed races, only 10 saw more than two candidates file. [7]

2010

Cohen won the election in the primary, receiving 70% of the vote. She then ran unopposed and was elected in the general election on November 2nd.[2][8]
