Samuel Alba
Samuel Alba was a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the District of Utah. He served in this position for 20 years. From 2003 to 2008, he was the Chief Magistrate Judge.[1] He retired from the bench on June 30, 2012.[2]
Early life and education
Judge Alba received his undergraduate degree from Utah State University in 1969. He received his law degree from Arizona State University Law School in 1972.[3][4]
Professional career
Judge Alba worked in the Arizona Federal Public Defenders’ office from 1972 to 1977. He then worked with a personal injury and criminal defense firm in Phoenix until 1980, when he joined the United States Attorney’s office. He worked in this office as a first assistant and the chief of criminal section until 1987. He then became a shareholder in the firm Prince, Yeates, Geldzahler, where he practiced law until he was appointed to the District of Utah in 1992.[1]
