Samuel Cummings was a 2015 Democratic candidate for Ward 7 of the St. Louis, Missouri Board of Aldermen. In 2012, Cummings was a Democratic candidate for District 78 of the Missouri House of Representatives.
Biography
Cummings is a St. Louis, MO native, growing up in Soulard near the intersection of Russell and Broadway. He works with the local business community to encourage this via job creation and the development of opportunities for growth. Cummings sits on the consulting boards for Center of Advancement for African American Businesses and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
He graduated from St. Louis University High School and Saint Louis University. Cummings says the "Jesuit tradition has shaped his mission, platform and style as a progressive leader."[1]

Cummings listed the following as themes of his campaign.[1]
Protect/Support Public Education
"I am a real champion for Public Education; fighting to implement successful solutions that improve student learning, such as, FREE early childhood education for ALL starting at age 3."[1]
Provide New Solutions to Old Problems
"I will implement bold ideas like Free Wireless Internet Access and Vertical Urban Farming systems in our district, to save taxpayer dollars and provide more efficient services."[1]
Create Diverse Economic Development
"I will engage the business community to develop real opportunities for retraining and provide the optimal support necessary for small businesses to create JOBS."[1]
Elections
2015
The city of St. Louis, Missouri, held elections for its board of aldermen on April 7, 2015. A primary election took place on March 3, 2015.
Ward 7 incumbent Phyllis Young resigned from office in December 2014. The candidates for the Ward 7 Democratic primary election were John Coatar, Chelsea Merta, and Samuel J. Cummings, III. Coatar won the primary and ran unopposed in the general election.[2][3]

Cummings ran in the 2012 election for Missouri House of Representatives, District 78. Cummings was defeated by incumbent Penny V. Hubbard in the August 7 primary election.[4]
