Samuel T. Wright III
Samuel T. Wright was a judge of the Kentucky Supreme Court 7th District. He assumed office in 2016. He left office on January 3, 2021.
Wright ran for re-election for judge of the Kentucky Supreme Court 7th District. He lost in the primary on June 23, 2020.
Wright was elected on November 3, 2015, and sworn in on December 7 for a term beginning in January 2016. He succeeded David Allen Barber.[1]
Education
Wright received an associate’s degree from Hazard Community College before earning his B.S. in political science from the University of Kentucky in 1978. He received his J.D. from the University of Kentucky College of Law in 1981.[2][3][4]
Career
Wright joined the law firm of Cook and Wright in 1982. In June 1989, he opened his own law practice, Samuel T. Wright III, Attorney at Law. Governor Brereton Jones appointed Wright to the 47th Judicial District Court, serving Letcher County, in March 1992. Wright then ran for election to the seat and won. In May 1993, Jones appointed Wright to the 47th Judicial Circuit bench in Letcher County. He was elected to the seat in a special election in 1993 and re-elected in 1999, 2006 and 2014, before running for the supreme court in 2015.[3][5][6][7]
