San Carlos Antonio was a 2016 Democratic candidate for District 117 of the Texas House of Representatives.

Campaign themes

2016

Antonio's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Military & Veterans:

  • Cut through the claims backlog and the red tape to ensure benefits and care
  • Building a Resource (Battle Buddy) Center
  • Fighting to break the cycle of veteran homelessness & suicide rate, which is a national shame
  • Improving and expanding health care treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
  • Renew unemployment insurance for veterans
  • Guarantee Job Security – Rewarded employer for maintaining their commitment to returning home soldiers

Middle Class/Working Poor:

  • Minimum wage is designed for entry-level (high school teens) not for grownups to support families of four or five. Throwing money at those who are not motivated, will only perpetuate poverty and not lift them out of it.
  • Support true pro-growth policies that reward good work ethics and open up opportunities for everyone willing to work hard can be an alternative solution.
  • Government should downsized – Respect the supreme court ruling on National Health Care
  • Support a SECOND CHANCE – START OVER – not handouts, as a way of life
  • Supports Apartment/Tenant reform while still allowing owners to make decent return on their investments

Immigrants/Immigration:

  • We Must secure ‘ALL’ of our borders – “Building border fence” is fiscally irresponsible & wasteful
  • Supports unification but not deportation – keeping families together and meet the demand for jobs that employers cannot fill
  • Supports cracking down on all Individuals & employers who hire undocumented immigrants for whatever reasons
  • Supports mandatory two year’s military & community services as a pathway to permanent residence and/or citizenship.

Education/Skills:

  • Supports Home Based Up-Bringing – Proverbs 22:6 & Ephesians 6:4
  • Supports Remedial English (as our core language is required)
  • Supports and encourage lifelong and independent learning
  • Supports cutting student loan interest rates by “nearly half” and refinancing current loans @ Low interest rates @ 4-year College
  • Supports Tuition Assistance – Employer Tax Break for hiring Veterans and college graduates
  • Supports government Tax Incentives to employers who hire Veterans and college students holding marketable 4 year degree

Traditional Family/Christian Values:

  • Opposition to same sex marriage & pre-marital sex – while supporting abstinence education – Respect the Supreme Court Ruling
  • Opposition to abortion (Unless The Life Of The Mother Is In Eminent Danger) but belief in adoption as an alternative
  • Belief in programs and public policies that shield children from exploitation
  • Belief in father as head-of-household (strengthening & restructuring the Authority in the home – two parent household)[1]
