Sand City Measure U was on the ballot as a referral in Sand City on November 3, 2020. It was defeated.

A “yes” vote supported authorizing a sales tax increase from 1% to 1.5% generating an estimated $1 million per year for city services, thereby increasing the total sales tax rate in Sand City from 8.75% to 9.25%.

A “no” vote opposed authorizing a sales tax increase from 1% to 1.5% generating an estimated $1 million per year for city services, thereby leaving the existing total sales tax rate in Sand City at 8.75%.


A simple majority was required for the approval of Measure U.

The ballot title for Measure U was as follows:

Shall an ordinance be adopted to increase the rate of a transactions and use tax from one percent (1%) to one and one-half percent (1.5%) on the retail sale of goods in Sand City to generate an estimated $1,000,000 per year with no termination date to be used to provide general City services?
