A vote about whether to recall Sandi Cassanelli from her position as a Josephine County Commissioner took place in a recall election on December 6th, 2011.[1] Cassanelli was recalled from her seat with 71% of votes.[2]
Path to the ballot
A group called Citizens for Positive Government organized the recall effort. Ed Bowers served as chief petitioner. Recall organizers successfully gathered the 5,000 signatures necessary to put the recall question on the ballot.[3] Ballots were mailed out on November 18th and counted on December 6th.[1]
Reasons for recall
Cassanelli was accused of unprofessional and harassing conduct; lack of support for the Sheriff's Office, veterans, the animal shelter and economic development activities; denigrating behavior toward representatives of other governing bodies and nongovernmental organizations; and disclosing confidential personnel matters in public.[3]
Cassanelli said, "These allegations are bogus! They are vague, exaggerated or outright false accusations. These people are so inaccurate they couldn't even spell my name right on their petition. Or correctly identify my position number to form their committee!"[1]
